The fossil free movement in the Netherlands consists of hundreds of volunteers, ten local and thematic groups, and a small back-office team of a handful paid employees. We believe that people power is the way to build a safe climate and a better, just future.
Our mission is to build a strong, community-based movement to break the power of the fossil fuel industry. This creates space for a fast, just transition toward 100% renewable energy for all.
Thanks to our movement the public debate has shifted: the fossil fuel industry is no longer seen as part of the solution, but part of the problem. Together, we ensured that prominent public institutions cut their ties with oil, coal and gas companies.
- Thanks to the powerful performances of Fossil Free Culture, the Van Gogh Museum and Het Concertgebouw have cut their ties with oil giant Shell.
- Thanks to the strategic campaign by Reclame Fossielvrij, Amsterdam has become the first city in the world to ban fossil fuel advertising.
- We have put the climate crisis and the problem of fossil fuel investment on the agenda of Dutch pension funds and financial institutions.
We are part of 350.org, an international movement of ordinary people working to end the age of fossil fuels and build a world of community-led renewable energy for all.
